The Fuente Techada estate is 2 km from Sotosalbos in the direction of Santo Domingo de Río Pirón. Sotosalbos is an attractive little village of stone houses counting 45 inhabitants, which has remained intact and authentic with no signs of indiscriminate construction. The 11th century Church of St Michael is among the best examples of Romanesque buildings in the Segovia province; the simple and impressive fortress tower can be seen from the estate. Its beauty attracts tourism and has endowed this small village with several fabulous restaurants offering the best of local cooking. The ruins of the 12th century Cistercian Monastery of St Mary of the Mountains in Collado Hermoso overlook the entire landscape.
Segovia is just 18 km away; the distances to Madrid and Valladolid are 110 km and 120 km respectively. This makes it ideally situated for excursions to emblematic towns and destinations in Segovia province, such as Pedraza (19 km away) with its medieval streets, Sepúlveda (39 km) with its majestic castle, Las Dolces del Duratón Natural Park (40 km) with its bird-of-prey reserve, La Granja de San Ildefonso (18 km) with its Royal Palace and incredible gardens, and Turégano or Torre Val de San Pedro (20 km) with their famous antique shops. And, of course, the World Heritage city of Segovia, a culinary capital par excellence.
Guests can also enjoy pleasant walks through the countryside without getting into the car. There are good hiking trails to enjoy the natural attractions of Guadarrama Natural Park, the beauty of the Camino de San Frutos or the Prión River. Bolder excursionists can set out for Malangosto Pass, a route used and mentioned by the Archpriest of Hita in medieval times, or visit the Virgin of the Mountains Monastery and its looms.
